Wheee..  VACATION!

Writing this from seat 6A on Southwest Airlines from Baltimore to Louisville, getting there at just before midnight eastern time.  Then off to spend a few nights in southern Indiana.  Wednesday, we head for the great north.  Class reunion is coming up next weekend.  No “real job” work until 7/23.  YAY.

Kerri’s a bit behind the

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 12, 2002

Kerri’s a bit behind the times.  This was already proposed in the days immediately following September 11th, and hell, even Larry Ellison of Oracle jumped on the bandwagon.  Larry, of course, wanted an Oracle backend to a national ID system.

All teasing aside, Kerri writes stuff with more substance in her weblog and I do.  Gotta work on that, but HEY, I’m on vacation.

But what do you bet, as the debate in the UK rages on about national IDs, that someone in the Bush administration doesn’t suddenly take it on as a faboo idea??  [kerri News]

Interesting story.  I have 9

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 12, 2002

Interesting story.  I have 9 linux boxes in the house.  All are servers of various types, except for one desktop PC.  The Desktop runs Slackware 8.0, as do all of the servers.  I use AfterStep as a window manager.

Now, that said.  I have a Sony VAIO PCG-R505JL laptop that runs Windows XP and is used to run my home business, email, web browsing, and so on.  The Linux Desktop PC is used for programming and other things where a good linux desktop is needed.

Said desktop also dual boots into Windows ME for games 😉

I’m not ready to give up on Windows as a desktop environment – I like Outlook too much, the support for my hardware is indeed better, and most of my business tools are Windows based.  But I can’t code on the laptop 🙂

A Linux user goes back. From Windows to Linux and back again. It’s a journey I know all too well. Except that I also use a Mac a lot… [Jeremy Zawodny’s blog]

Jeremy makes some very good

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 12, 2002

Jeremy makes some very good points from George’s article.

MySQL: Better Practices. Allow me to point out some things that I really don’t agree with in George Reese’s recent OnLAMP article. [Jeremy Zawodny’s blog]
