One of my first major projects in ‘Middle School’ (AKA 6th Grade) was a Independent Study of NASA. I took a look at Pioneer 10 actually, and learned alot about this probe.
It’s pretty wild to me that now as I approach the age of thirty, that these suckers are still talking to us out there!
It’s the stuff of a great old “Star Trek” episode: the Voyager planetary probes just keep on trucking, and as they near the outer edge of the Solar System, they’re becoming — unintendedly — the first human-made interstellar vehicles. The New York Times’ John Noble Wilford’s paean to the Voyagers is great reading. [Scott Rosenberg’s Links & Comment]
