Saw Suzy play yesterday when I was out at River Highlands volunteering for the Real Job and taking in some golf and beer. She had quite the crowd following her around. Was neat to get to see her play.
Whaley Misses Cut, but Makes Most of Her Big Moment
CROMWELL, Conn., July 25 ó For Suzy Whaley, as with Annika Sorenstam earlier this year, things became harder on the second day of a PGA Tour event. After a five-over-par 75 on Thursday that was better than scores posted by 13 players, Whaley posted a 78 today in the second round of the Greater Hartford Open. That put her at 13-over-par 153, far above the cutoff number of even-par 140.
But it did not seem to matter to the effervescent Whaley, 36, a teaching professional from nearby Farmington. A gallery that included her husband, two daughters and parents cheered Whaley from her opening shot. She reciprocated with a beaming smile and waves to the crowd.
“I wish I could explain to you how it feels to have that many people cheering for you all day long for two days straight,” Whaley said. “It’s the most wonderful feeling in the world, and it keeps you going.”
