Scripting News

by Bryan Strawser · Dec 21, 2002

What is Scripting News: “‘Only steal from the best’ is a motto I have stolen from some great writer whose name I don’t know. It illustrates an important difference between writing and programming. In programming we tend to reinvent what others have invented, or even worse, patent things that other people have invented.” [Scripting News]

Bloomberg Shows What Outsiders Can Do. A billionaire entrepreneur who squeaked into office with no government experience or clear base of political support, seems to succeed because of those very liabilities. By Jennifer Steinhauer. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]

Let slip the dogs of war…

by Bryan Strawser · Dec 19, 2002

CNN.   Invasion decision expected at the end of January.   This is a foredrawn conclusion.  We are going to war.  Will this usher in a year of conflict or a decade?  My guess is the latter.

Military officials have told CNN the Pentagon may begin an obvious buildup of U.S. military forces — including almost doubling its troop presence to more than 100,000 — in the Persian Gulf region in January. There are roughly 60,000 U.S. troops there now.

Decisions on troop movements are expected in the next few days, Pentagon officials said.

Building PHP Applications With Macromedia

by Bryan Strawser · Dec 19, 2002

Building PHP Applications With Macromedia Dreamweaver MX – Harish Kamath for www.devshed.com – Massimo tipped me off to this one. Thanks Massimo!

An exploration of the PHP features of Dreamweaver MX. “Most RAD tools include very limited support for PHP – which makes them unwelcome visitors on my computer, since most of my work involves working with PHP and MySQL-based sites. When I got my hands on Dreamweaver MX, though, I was impressed with its feature set and capabilities. Sure, it didn’t include *everything* on my wish list…but it’s clear that the guys at Macromedia have been thinking about the problem, and have made a serious effort to address PHP in their tool. “

The tone of the article is informal and informative. If you are a PHP pro looking at DMX, this is a good start. If you are DMX person looking at PHP, then this is a very good article to look at.

Also remember that the User Authentication and Master-Detail Page extensions are available on the Developer Resource Kit volume 2.
