What happens when a charismatic messenger propounds bankrupt ideas? He is deified. Don’t confuse the appeal of charisma with the appeal of ideas that are past their prime. [John Robb’s Radio Weblog]
I am a West Wing Fan..
And Ernie.. they are definately democrats…
Hail to the West Wing – I notice that, like a lot of my fellow blog-buddies, I really enjoy the TV show “The West Wing.” I’m guessing that President Josh Bartlet is a democrat, but it doesn’t seem like the show really reveals party affiliation. Instead the show focuses on the intricacies of politics, and how decisions get made and deals get cut. The show gets into issues that are going on now: terrorism, funky voting systems, assassination attempts, back-channel communications. In short almost anything that is a real issue in our country right now. Except, of course, one thing. And that’s understandable when you think about it. Anyone out here in blogland notice which cutting edge issues that the show never discusses?
The answer (which is stated in the form of “my opinion”) will be revealed tomorrow.

Realignment takes hold…
The 3 M’s and the next twenty years. American politics typically is dominated by a single party. For the last 80 years that has been the Democrats. As of yesterday, we have now formally entered an era of Republican domination. The Republican vision for American is one firmly entrenched in the preservation of the status quo.
Up until this last year, the Republicans didn’t have a sufficiently broad-based platform to allow them to consistently win elections. 9/11 changed that. National Security is now an issue with broad appeal that allows the Republicans to attract the incremental votes needed to win elections consistently.
The Republican platform can be summed with the following:
Militarism. National security. Aggressive and unilateralist.
Money. Wealth preservation. Tax cuts.
Morals. The sanctity of life. The preservation of the American family.
More on this later. [John Robb’s Radio Weblog]

The Long Ride Home…
Back on Amtrak’s Acela Express heading from Penn Station, New York back to Providence, Rhode Island… should be home in less than three hours..
Got to see our stores in Queens Place and Gateway Center (Brooklyn) today as well as spending some office time with the boss – pretty enlightening day.
Looking forward to seeing what Amtrak has cooked up for dinner tonight. Very interesting to me that I have the same crew in first class on the way home today that I had coming here…

I am having a blast being the owner of an Apple iPod.
I purchased the 20GB Windows Version, and after some intial problems figuring out how to get it to sync the way that I wanted with my Sony Vaio laptop, I eventually loaded my entire CD collection onto it (2200+ songs). I had previously ripped all of my CDs onto the hard drive of one of my servers.
Right now I’m jamming to Dave Matthews while cruising through southwestern Connecticut on the way to New York City for a real job ™ trip…
