This drives me nuts

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 26, 2002

Why do they keep holding up judicial nominations?  It started under Clinton’s administration, but has continued under Bush as the democrats took over the Senate.  Whatever happened to the President’s privilege to pick and choose his/her nominees without undue influence?

It’s driving me batty.

How controversial are you?. How controversial are you? Federal judicial nominees who have been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee and thus are now awaiting approval by the full Senate will soon learn the answer to that question. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle moments ago stated on the floor of the Senate that he saw no reason why all noncontroversial federal judicial nominees who have made it through the Judiciary Committee could not have confirmation votes before the full Senate by the end of next week. What a waste…

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 26, 2002

I never really understood suicide, except for cases where people are terminally ill.  I’ve been in the throes of major depression before and the thought never crossed my mind.  I was horrendously sad, but not to that point.

Then again, I never walked in Gene’s shoes…

Salon comes to play in Userland

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 25, 2002

The new Salon blogs site is incredible – there are some seriously talented writers there blogging away, including most of Salon’s leadership team, and other famous folks such as Ray Ozzie and others.  Impressive.

Press release: “Salon Media Group, in partnership with UserLand Software, today announced the launch of Salon Blogs, a new service that will allow Salon’s users to publish their own weblogs through Salon.” A business model is born! Congrats to both UserLand and Salon for their insight on making this deal happen. Lets hope this gives some BigPubs a run for their money. Literally. [Adam Curry: Adam Curry’s Weblog]

There goes an interesting guy

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 25, 2002

He might have been about half-ass crazy, but he was never boring to listen to.  He used to be one of the lead-off speakers each day during the one-minute speeches that they let Congressmen make at the beginning of each Congressional session – god, they were entertaining.

He may be a crook (I’m not convinced, but don’t know enough about the case), but he certainly made things interesting…

The Quotable James Traficant. For the non-U.Sians not in the know, James Traficant is the embattled U.S. Congressman who was put on trial by Congress and then expelled July 24 for taking bribes and kickbacks. The following are quotes from his Congressional hearing. [kuro5hin.org]
