Tesla was a kewl mo-fo.

by Bryan Strawser · Apr 20, 2002

Tesla was a kewl mo-fo.  Paleotech 02: The Man Who Built Tomorrow. He was a bona fide genius and self-avowed benefactor of humanity, who gave away one of the single most important inventions ever patented so it could be developed for our benefit. He was a practical mystic who harbored the oddest imaginable ideas about the energy of thought, life forces, and the propagation of electrical energy. He was an inspired theorist who imagined the most awesome machines, and a skilled mechanic who made them real and tamed them with his own hands. When Nikola Tesla died in 1943 he left behind an enduring legacy, a haunting list of unfulfilled dreams, and a vast enigma. [kuro5hin.org]

Then give them more money.

by Bryan Strawser · Apr 20, 2002

Then give them more money.  It’s pretty amazing to me that we’re so willing to criticize stuff but not willing to come up with any solutions.  The Commonwealth of Massachusetts spends millions per year on what I’d kindly call crap…  It’s far past time they spent money on things that matter.  Backlog at state crime lab delaying Truro slay case. Heh.  How to Suck Less.

by Bryan Strawser · Apr 19, 2002

Heh.  How to Suck Less. Over the course of the past several months, it has come to my attention that the vast majority of you people suck. Most people suck, don’t get me wrong, I was just hoping kuro5hin would be exempt from the suck until, at the very least, the real world suck saturation slowed somewhat. Now, unfortunately, I have to deal with your suck on a day to day basis, and it’s pissing the unsucky people off. This is an obviously incomplete guide to sucking less, but it should be enough to get you started. [kuro5hin.org]

by Bryan Strawser · Apr 18, 2002

I’m sure it was the drug’s fault.  Jesus.  Suicide Pilot’s Parents Sue Acne Drug Manufacturer. In yet another example of the prevalence of “blame culture” in our society nowadays, the family of the fifteen-year old boy who flew a small private plane into a Florida office buiding in early January of this year has filed a US$70 million wrongful death suit (Yahoo! News) against the manufacturer of the anti-acne drug Accutane. [kuro5hin.org]

Some of my detractors say

by Bryan Strawser · Apr 18, 2002

Some of my detractors say I have attention deficit disorder, and I’m sure it looks that way to them, but actually sometimes I figure out which way we’re going before most other people do. Then, the only thing to do is to wait. An example of this is the SOAP and XML-RPC interface for Manila, which we came out with in 1999, three years ago. Today I read that Google and Microsoft are the only ones with real world apps that support Internet scripting. See what I mean. If you’re not there at the right time, it doesn’t matter. This doesn’t trouble me. We need Google to get everyone looking at this stuff. And in the intervening three years we had time to figure out more stuff and get it implemented too.  [Scripting News]
