Give me a break. This

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 18, 2002

Give me a break. This series will last all of about six episodes.  It’s horrible and completely untrue.  If you really want to get a glimpse of what happens in the Surpeme Court, read Bob Woodard’s Great Book, The Brethren.   All my brethren. On CBS’s unintentionally hilarious Supreme Court drama “First Monday,” the nation’s young and restless high court is a guiding light for the bold and the beautiful as the world turns. [Salon.com]

Legal Idiots.  This one has

Legal Idiots.  This one has bugged me for a long time.  Almost everyone pleads not guilty at their first court appearance, it’s the only way to retain an attorney and spend some time to see if you can strike some sort of a deal with the prosecution.  You don’t just walk into court and plead guilty without at least seeing what the other side has to offer.

I see this all of the time in the media.  “Suspect in murder pleads not guilty.”  Well, no shit.  Shoe Bomber Suspect Denies Charges. Richard C. Reid, accused of trying to blow up a transatlantic flight last month, pleaded not guilty today. [The New York Times: National]

Wireless Networking, Windows XP, and

Wireless Networking, Windows XP, and Living without ‘Net…

Was helping a friend of mine setup his new office today, install a LAN, buy a computer, and all that jazz.  He’s got a snazzy new Dell Laptop with Windows XP, and we snagged a new Compaq AMD Athlon system that’s pretty snappy.

Then came the LAN..  We loaded up a Linksys WPC11 card into his laptop, followed the directions, got it installed and talking to the access point.. and then it refused to share files.

Four frustrating hours later, we gave up and went home.

In five minutes at home, I had the answer.  The drivers were out of date, the ones in the box didn’t support Windows XP.. now I have the new drivers here on my laptop to take in to him tomorrow so he can get things running properly.

This really isn’t about the problems we had or the missing drivers.. it’s that his office doesn’t have ‘net access yet as Verizon hasn’t gotten around to installing it…  so we couldn’t the obvious.. head to Google, do a search, and find the answer.

Frustrating, frustrating…
