Connect the Dots

by Bryan Strawser · Oct 27, 2002

I use a Compaq iPAQ, an Apple iPod, a Redhat desktop, a Sony / Windows Laptop, Outlook at work (2000), Outlook at home (XP), a Samsung Cell Phone (Sprint), and I could go on…  I’d love for that information to all connect…

SJ Mercury: Tools coming for connecting information. Dan Gillmor. But we need more sophisticated methods for gathering, massaging and making connections among all the pieces of information that enter our lives each day — everything from e-mail to Web pages to phone numbers and more. So when I see useful tools, I pay attention. [Tomalak’s Realm]

Oh, this is classic…

by Bryan Strawser · Oct 25, 2002

Hey! That looks like my ex-sister-in-law!. Just when you’d given up–when the mail-order Russian bride hot-or-not site has worn its welcome, and your prospects for a guaranteed date for New Years seem to be slightly better than getting a job as a web designer– somebody starts hosting Meet-an-inmate.com. All you have to do is find a potential mate with an upcoming release date. [Sean Gallagher: the dot.communist]

RIP, Senator Wellstone

Eldred v US

by Bryan Strawser · Oct 25, 2002

Aaron has the transcript of the Eldred arguments.  Very convoluted.  I can see how hard it would be to come up with a hard and fast rule for limiting copyright term.  However, it needs to be done.  We are going to make a choice here as a nation.  We need to determine if we are going to relax into the position of being toll takers or if we are going to thrust ourselves into the role of creators.  Toll takers create once and collect money on that innovation forever.  They prevent, to the extent possible, innovation that may be derivative.  Creators are constantly working on new things, every mindful that the clock is ticking and that the money doesn’t arrive at the doorstop without continued effort. I have always thought the US was a nation of creators. That is changing. [John Robb’s Radio Weblog]

I read the book and enjoyed it…

Dahlia Lithwick reviews Ken Starr’s new book. Dahlia Lithwick reviews Ken Starr’s new book: I’m going to call this a negative review of Kenneth W. Starr’s new book about the U.S. Supreme Court, entitled “First Among Equals: The Supreme Court in American Life.” You can access two other, more favorable reviews via links you will find here and here.
