Grokking Advanced MySQL

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 26, 2002

Great presentations from Jeremy’s OSCON presentation.  Am reading some older presentations now – awesome!

MySQL Presentations on-line now. The slides for the three major presentations I did for the 2002 O’Reilly Open Source Convention are now on-line. They… [Jeremy Zawodny’s blog]

Tell me where to send the check!

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 26, 2002

Bing! We got lucky. Ed Cone lives in North Carolina’s 6th District. I think once I’m fully recovered, I’m going to devote myself to working with Ed, and people in the San Fernando Valley, to correct the problem in Washington. Can we raise $5 million for this? It would be worth it. I gotta believe we can eliminate one or two Congressmen to make the point that computer users can’t be taken for granted. [Scripting News]

FERPA, rhymes with Sherpa

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 26, 2002

Web security in academia. Whoa! How dumb is Princeton’s admissions office to do this? And how dumb are Yale’s web application developers (or buyers, if it isn’t a custom product) to use SSN, name, and bday for login information? Um, doy? You should both be held accountable for your FERPA violations. So should my health insurer, for using my SSN as my account number, but I’m not ready to sue them for that. Yet. 😉 [kerri News]

This drives me nuts

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 26, 2002

Why do they keep holding up judicial nominations?  It started under Clinton’s administration, but has continued under Bush as the democrats took over the Senate.  Whatever happened to the President’s privilege to pick and choose his/her nominees without undue influence?

It’s driving me batty.

How controversial are you?. How controversial are you? Federal judicial nominees who have been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee and thus are now awaiting approval by the full Senate will soon learn the answer to that question. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle moments ago stated on the floor of the Senate that he saw no reason why all noncontroversial federal judicial nominees who have made it through the Judiciary Committee could not have confirmation votes before the full Senate by the end of next week. What a waste…

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 26, 2002

I never really understood suicide, except for cases where people are terminally ill.  I’ve been in the throes of major depression before and the thought never crossed my mind.  I was horrendously sad, but not to that point.

Then again, I never walked in Gene’s shoes…
