Outta beer, outta here…

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 22, 2002

Crusing along on yet another Southwest Airlines flight from Louisville to Providence, RI, via Baltimore-Washington Airport outside of Baltimore, Maryland.

Course, Providence’s Airport is really in Warwick, RI, but no one really ever calls it that.

My mom told me via email the other day that she was keeping track of vacation travels and the reunion through my weblog, I think that’s pretty slick.

Been fiddling with weblog setup and templates to get a better look and feel here.  I really like Mark’s weblog and his templates – although he’s using Movable Type.  Eventually, I’ll get to something closer to what I really want, though the present theme I’m using is a good start.

Too many emails…

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 22, 2002

I get around 80 work related emails at my ‘real job’ every day and another 100 or so at my ‘fun job’ every day.  I’d love to see some tallies on how many emails my employer’s system handles in a day.  I can’t begin to imagine what that would look like….

Liverpool: I Wanna Hold Your Spam. Once it discovered that its 6,000-strong staff were sending 100,000-plus internal e-mails a day, the Liverpool City Council, previously famous for the Beatles, banned such activities one day a week. By Daith’ î hAnluain. [Wired News]

Worldcom files for Chapter 11 on a Sunday

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 22, 2002

Electronic Court systems are probably just the beginning.  I’d really like to see free access to online court filings (since they are public records after all) and the like as well.  Make them pay to file the darn things, but I’d like to reach them for free.

WorldCom Files Chapter 11 – On A Sunday?. You’ve no doubt already heard or read that WorldCom, Inc. has filed what is widely being reported as the largest bankruptcy proceeding in U.S. history. See, e.g., MSNBC. My father called up wondering how they pulled it off on a Sunday. Seems the digital era knows no weekends: the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York accepts filings via ECF/PACER system, which lets registered attorneys file court documents 24/7. More about ECF (Electronic Case Files) is here, from the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, and here is a comprehensive list of courts which have implemented or are implementing the system. (Sadly, these factoids will do nothing to prop up the morning’s markets; see news.com.au.) [Bag and Baggage]

Convertin’, Movin’, and Archivin’

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 22, 2002

Slowly in the process of moving over alot of old writings from days past (some back to Middle School) into Radio Userland so that I have both local and remote copies – and making them more available.

I think that I’m prompted to do this because of my weekend experiences at The Indiana Academy’s Reunion, as well as Danielle’s discovery of some old writings of mine from high school that she showed me this weekend.

Now, I really need to find a way to get my mag tape from Ball State University out of archive and the files transferred over to me.  Some of my content there is the best writing that I ever did.  I’d love just to be able to read my old emails and the like.

Many memories….
