This is so cool. We pull up to a Starbucks in San Luis Obispo to grab some caff and stretch our legs, and I pull out the laptop to see what’s up. Sure enough, I’m on the Net, through a hot spot called linksys. No T-Mobile here, but who cares? We’re home, free.

I am r00t, hear me roar!

The Totalitarian System Admin. I used to travel a lot: back in time when I was younger and still in high school, somehow I managed to find myself on a plane from one end of the country to another on a bi-monthly basis. Flying can be tremendously boring when you’re on your own with little to do in seats that crush your knees up to your chin; however, flying is damn interesting when you’re sitting next to an intelligent someone who wants to talk. I think part of the reason for that is that there’s no escape when the plane’s full. You’re stuck there and forced to listen whether you want to or not. On one such flight I was seated next to a woman who looked like she’d come straight from the legislature. She struck up a conversation with me that continues to nag at me; it still finds purchase in the ol’ noggin as one of those unresolved somethings that comes back to haunt you when you have a little solitude to think. This is awesome.  It means Dave is local to me.  Hmm.. New blog hang outs?

It’s true, it’s true. I’ve been offered a fellowship at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School, and have, of course, accepted. It’s a very exciting opportunity. Check out this section of yesterday’s DaveNet for an idea of what we’re going to work on. And of course over the coming weeks and months I’ll write more. I’m going to spend a lot of time in Cambridge this year. Totally looking forward. Onward! [Scripting News]
