Public Spats

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 14, 2004

I’m tired of watching and reading about the very public disagreements between Dave Winer and Mark Pilgrim.

I have never met either of them – but I have been a long time reader and admirer of them both. They both bring enormous talent, leadership, and influence to the blogging world every day. They command a great deal of respect from myself and others.

I don’t know the original nature of their disagreements and not sure that I really care. But I am quite tired of hearing about it.

I’m just a simple guy ya know.

Unwell

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 12, 2004

All day staring at the ceiling
Making friends with shadows on my wall
All night hearing voices telling me
That I should get some sleep
Because tomorrow might be good for something

Hold on
Feeling like I’m headed for a breakdown
And I don’t know why

But I’m not crazy, I’m just a little unwell
I know right now you can’t tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you’ll see
A different side of me
I’m not crazy, I’m just a little impaired
I know right now you don’t care
But soon enough you’re gonna think of me
And how I used to be…me

It Just Works

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 12, 2004

I’ll try not to turn this in to another obsessive Mac fan blog, but let’s just say that I’m beginning to realise what I’ve been missing. I’m not going back. [Simon Willison: Mac-tastic]

Bush in Thirty Seconds

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 10, 2004

Watched most of the ads that MoveOn has placed up online in the Bush in 30 Seconds competition.

I didn’t register to vote, but the best one in my mind is In My Country because everything this guy says is true.

I’m still voting for Bush though.

It is a dream I have…

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 10, 2004

“I’ve often thought.. that in the hereafter of our lives. When I owed no more to the future.. can be.. just a man.

That we may meet, and you will come to me.. and claim me yours.. and know that I am your husband….

It is a dream I have….”

The Cheeseburger

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 5, 2004

Most Anticipated Moment of 2003: When the ultrasound technician pointed at the monitor and said, “See that cheeseburger? That means it’s a girl.”

My husband’s most memorable quote of 2003: “You’re going to have to teach our daughter about her cheeseburger.”

If you’re getting your daily dose of Dooce – well, then, you’re just missing out on life.

Consequences

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 5, 2004

Pete Rose, has now admitted that he bet on baseball during his time as the manager of the Cincinatti Reds.

I remember Rose’s case well – it was during a brief moment of time in my life where I read Sports Illustrated religiously. His was an interesting case – because of his prominence in the sport tarnished by such a rapid fall.

As Rose discovered, all actions have consequences. His gambling on baseball resulted in his lifetime banishment from the sport. And thus, he’s ineligible to be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

He’s applied for reinstatement and many have now taken up his cause.

I agree it’s a shame that he won’t be remembered as the Hall of Famer that he could have been – but his actions severely tarnished the reputation of the game, cast into doubt the result of the games in which he managed, and destroyed his own reputation.

He made the decision and now he needs to live with the consequences of that decision.
