Tomb of the Unknown Guards Shun Shelter

by Bryan Strawser · Sep 20, 2003

ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 19 %u2014  As the winds from Hurricane Isabel swept over Arlington National Cemetery, the soldiers who guard the Tomb of the Unknowns were given %u2014 for the first time in history %u2014 permission to abandon their posts and seek shelter. ìThey told us that. But thatís not whatís going to happen,î said Sgt. Christopher Holmes, standing vigil on overnight duty. ìThatís never an option for us. It went in one ear and right out the other.î [MSNBC]

Golf at Red Tail

by Bryan Strawser · Sep 18, 2003

Tuesday was quite the day at Devens, Massachusetts as Fritz, Ted, and I had our first encounter with the Red Tail Golf Club – currently rated as the number one course in Massachusetts according to GolfBoston.com.

As you can see from the pictures below, the course is simply gorgeous and in incredible condition.

The view below is from the 10th tee, which overlooks the 18th green. Fritz and Ted would have an unfortunate encounter with that pond as we finished our day. By a stroke of luck, I was able to carry my three wood about 180 yards across the water and landed about 15 yards from the green. Really my only good shot of the day.

Golf Digest has written a great review of Red Tail. More pictures are available.

Playing Red Tail Golf Club tomorrow morning. Top ten course in Massachusetts. Should be a blast.

Personal days are great.

And tonight, I mourn with my home state.

Gov. Frank O’Bannon, a gentle but powerful leader in his beloved Indiana for more than 30 years, died today in a Chicago hospital where he was treated for a massive stroke.

O’Bannon, 73, a native of Corydon, died at 11:33 a.m. in Northwestern Memorial Hospital. []Indianapolis Star]

Michael Moore is a communist. Why does anyone listen to him?

I will never spend a penny to watch this film – or any other film that he makes.

I just finished watching Bowling for Columbine. First, I wonder why the hell anyone ever talks to Michael Moore EVAR. [Kerri Hick’s Weblog]
