Suzy Whaley at the Greater Hartford Open

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 26, 2003

Saw Suzy play yesterday when I was out at River Highlands volunteering for the Real Job and taking in some golf and beer. She had quite the crowd following her around. Was neat to get to see her play.

Whaley Misses Cut, but Makes Most of Her Big Moment

CROMWELL, Conn., July 25 ó For Suzy Whaley, as with Annika Sorenstam earlier this year, things became harder on the second day of a PGA Tour event. After a five-over-par 75 on Thursday that was better than scores posted by 13 players, Whaley posted a 78 today in the second round of the Greater Hartford Open. That put her at 13-over-par 153, far above the cutoff number of even-par 140.

But it did not seem to matter to the effervescent Whaley, 36, a teaching professional from nearby Farmington. A gallery that included her husband, two daughters and parents cheered Whaley from her opening shot. She reciprocated with a beaming smile and waves to the crowd.

“I wish I could explain to you how it feels to have that many people cheering for you all day long for two days straight,” Whaley said. “It’s the most wonderful feeling in the world, and it keeps you going.”

MT Bookmarklets Fixed

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 26, 2003

Great post by Jay Allen on fixing MT Bookmarklet’s for Safari on Mac OS X – works great!

Fixing the MT bookmarklet for Safari :: The Daily Journey :: JayAllen.org

One of the only drawbacks I have experienced in using Safari and Movable Type together is the annoyance of having to edit the javascript of the generated bookmarklet in order to make it work and the subsequent loss of ability to have selected text automatically inserted into the entry.

Sex.com Prevails in Domain Suit

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 26, 2003

I wish I had been intelligent enough to register this domain in 1994. Grrr. What dreams may come.

The owner of the porn site Sex.com is legally entitled to seek damages from the company that runs the dot-com registry for improperly transferring his website to a con man, a federal appeals court ruled. By Joanna Glasner. [Wired News]

NY Times: In the Lecture Hall,…

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 24, 2003

Somehow, I simply don’t think that this would be well respected if it happened in my corporation. But would be interesting to see.

I would love to goto a conference where this is common. Dave, let me come to BloggerCon!.

NY Times: In the Lecture Hall, a Geek Chorus. Mr. Aral discovered that he was not alone. The next day in the auditorium, which was outfitted with a wireless link to the Internet, a group of people booted up their laptops, opened their IM programs and spent the next three hours happily exchanging notes during the presentations. Illegal Assassination

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 23, 2003

Good God. Shut Charles Rangel up. Please.

Or beat him in the next election. Any takers?

WERE THE HUSSEIN BROTHERS’ DEATHS AN ILLEGAL ASSASSINATION? Rep. Charles Rangel suggests so, but this seems to me to be an example of (still more) hysterical overreaching by critics of the Administration, for reasons made clear in this post by Eugene Volokh…. [Instapundit.com]

MT and beyond

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 23, 2003

Amr posted some comments earlier today here on bryanstrawser.com and pointed to some great ideas for using MT as a complete site CMS. Very impressive stuff.

Thanks for adding to the conversation Amr.

Sadie and Katie

by Bryan Strawser · Jul 23, 2003

Mr. and Mrs. A.B. (“Butch”) Strawser, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, are pleased to announce the arrival of Sadie and Katie. Sadie and Katie are recent additions to the Florida Strawsers. They join Bishop, a thirteen year old Beagle mix, who isn’t quite sure what to make of the new additions. Bishop is quite confident that if she ignores them, then they really don’t exist and will go away.
