In Memoriam

by Bryan Strawser · May 25, 2003

I only worked in law enforcement for a bit under eighteen months. During that time alone, Indiana lost six police officers in the line of duty, including a State Trooper that I had the honor of knowing.

I happened to be surfing the web today and discovered the homepage of the Vermillion County (Illinois) Sheriff’s Department. They were across the state line in Illinois from my Indiana department, and we had occasion to work with them from time to time.

My horror came when I looked at their fallen heroes page to discover that Sergeant Myron Deckard had been killed in June 2001 while transporting a prisoner back to Vermillion County.

Myron was a gruff man with a direct demeanor and a good sense of humor. I only interacted with him on a couple occasions on the job, and enjoyed hearing his fugitive investigation stories. He will be sadly missed.

Rest in Peace, Myron.

Finally went there – for a party no less. Cooked out in the rain, had a good time.

Glad to be home though.

Finally got off my lazy ass and took new pictures of the home office now that I’ve rearranged the computers and made the mac front and center.

Pics are available here.

Drool

by Bryan Strawser · May 15, 2003

Question: If any Mac developer(s) want(s) to work with UserLand to build a slick interface for Radio (like this one for Windows), let me know.  I suspect based on UserLand’s sales into the Mac community that it would be worth $50-$100 k in revenue to the partner in the first year (more in follow on years).  Not a bad way to supplement income during a slow economic period.  Note:  UserLand sells software to over 3,500 companies, schools, and organizations.  Emmanuel has some comments on this.
