I look at it this

by Bryan Strawser · Jun 8, 2002

I look at it this way.  I like Dan, he speaks his mind.  I like Dave, he speaks his mind.  I like Doc, he speaks his mind.  See the trend? Yes, Dan’s employer fucked up his links yet again, but that’s business.   I still believe that he speaks his mind.  Now, I’m staying out of the way 😉  Dan Gillmor: “I have taken on my company in public, on a matter that went to the core of journalistic principles.” [Scripting News]

Give me a break.  Clearly

by Bryan Strawser · Jun 8, 2002

Give me a break.  Clearly these people are from Boston, home of the anti-everything.  Make Love, Not War Games. Give peace a chance, says a game developer who is bringing anti-war activism to first-person shooter games like Counter-Strike. By Brad King. [Wired News]

The T-1 Odyssey.  The line

by Bryan Strawser · Jun 7, 2002

The T-1 Odyssey.  The line is up.  The router and csu/dsu are configured.  We are in business baby!  Reset the BayStack 350T-16.  To do this, I had to pull it out of the rack and into the office and configure via serial port.  But now we’re cooking.

The LinkSys Firewall/Broadband router makes a nice router between the internal and external sub nets.  Now…  to get the rack reconfigured tomorrow to hold everything properly.

Either way, we’re in business.  Time to write the transition plan for the sites.  That will suck wind.

Yeah!  YOU GO GLENN!  ;)

by Bryan Strawser · Jun 6, 2002

Yeah!  YOU GO GLENN!  😉  Thursday: I Accuse. This morning, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) on behalf of myself and four other plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against a group of media companies which had themselves sued Sonic Blue, Inc., and ReplayTV, Inc. The full information is here . This lawsuit is a stand against the erosion of fair use. As a ReplayTV 4000 series owner, I have joined the suit in the interests of all individuals’ fair use rights. “There really isn’t an opportunity for the consumers voice to be heard in these cases,” is what one of the attorneys, Robin Gross said this morning … [GlennLog]

I should do this more

by Bryan Strawser · Jun 6, 2002

I should do this more often.

How to deal with telemarketers effectively.

Months go by and I don’t receive any telemarketing calls, but I just got off the phone with the nice people at Precision Telemarketing, who got my name and unlisted phone number from Time Warner Cable (against my explicit directions upon signup, and their explicit promises) in order to try to sell me a subscription for TV Guide. I used the JunkBusters anti-telemarketing script to tell them to put me on their “do not call” list. In accordance with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991, Precision Telemarketing will not be calling me again on behalf of TV Guide or any other company for the next 10 years.
