Beautiful. Helen Hayes. “Every human

by Bryan Strawser · Jun 19, 2002

Beautiful.

Helen Hayes. “Every human being on this earth is born with a tragedy, and it isn’t original sin. He’s born with the tragedy that he has to grow up. That he has to leave the nest, the security, and go out to do battle. He has to lose everything that is lovely and fight for a new loveliness of his own making, and it’s a tragedy. A lot of people don’t have the courage to do it.” [Motivational Quotes of the Day]

I’ve read this week’s Time,

by Bryan Strawser · Jun 18, 2002

I’ve read this week’s Time, Entertainment This Week, and Sports Illustrated in less than an hour.  Mostly in the shower.. that’s friggin bad.  Nothing good in them either.  Even Rick Reilly’s column in Sports Illustrated, which I really used to enjoy, was boring…

Very well said…  Go read

by Bryan Strawser · Jun 18, 2002

Very well said…  Go read this blog entry, he states the reasons far better than I can…

After reading too much political news: Top Ten Re …. After reading too much political news:

Top Ten Reasons I’m Not A (Left-)Liberal:

  1. Gun control. Liberals are completely wrong about this. A fair number of them know better, too, but they sponsor lies about it as a form of class warfare against conservative-leaning gun owners.
  2. Nuclear power. They’re wrong about this, too, and the cost in both dollars and human deaths by pollution and other fossil-fuel side-effects has been enormous.
  3. Affirmative action. These programs couldn’t be a more diabolical or effective plan for entrenching racial prejudice if the Aryan Nations had designed them….

by Bryan Strawser · Jun 18, 2002

YAY!

Here’s an update on Dave.  He just gave me a call.  He sounds great.  Very upbeat.  He was overwhelmed by the wonderful outpouring of support for his recovery.  I expect that he will be back online this weekend. [John Robb’s Radio Weblog]

Holy Dollar Signs Batman..  $10k

by Bryan Strawser · Jun 18, 2002

Holy Dollar Signs Batman..  $10k in one day.. Incredible…

The Future of K5, and the First Ever Kuro5hin Fundraising Drive. It’s almost a cliche at this point that whenever K5 faces adversity, whenever times look darkest, you pull out all the stops and restore my faith in humanity with a force that makes my head spin. And folks, you have done it again. In one day, you all managed to raise ten thousand dollars. I Am Not Making This Up. Individually, out of a simple desire to make sure K5 goes on, each of your few dollars here and few dollars there added up to ten grand. This is not a negligible amount. Over the same time I did a lot of thinking, and a lot of reading your comments and suggestions. I talked the situation over with my wife, and we decided that the right thing to do is take K5 non-profit. So, as of today I’m committed to making K5 a non-profit entity. What this means is that now we really need you. It’s your support, or nothing. From now until June 26th (next Wednesday) we’re having our first ever fundraising drive. The goal is to raise one year’s operating budget: $70,000. It seems enormous, unattainable. But think that yesterday your contributions added up to $10,000. There’s an awful lot of us. We can do this. Read on for a look at the future, and the present. [kuro5hin.org]
