Olives

by Bryan Strawser · Sep 27, 2003

Life is too short to have a martini with bad olives.

Get good ones – preferably with jalapeno olives in them.

Rethinking the Key Thrown Away

by Bryan Strawser · Sep 27, 2003

I don’t want much. I just want sentences to be tough, judges to be lenient where the circumstances require it – which shouldn’t be very often – and for serious crimes to get serious time.

I don’t believe in parole. Lock them up.

Last week, John Ashcroft, the tough-on-crime attorney general, gave federal prosecutors orders to all but eliminate plea bargaining with defendants and, almost without exception, prosecute the most serious charges they can prove.

Meanwhile, from Connecticut to California, legislatures and governors are, with a few exceptions, eagerly finding new ways to reduce, rethink or eliminate prison sentences for crimes within their jurisdictions.

The result is a somewhat contradictory national crime-fighting agenda: as the Ashcroft Justice Department demands the harshest prison terms and goes out of its way to track federal judges who do not give them, state lawmakers are openly advocating less time for the same crime and giving judges more discretion in choosing punishments. All Reserves Alerted

by Bryan Strawser · Sep 27, 2003

The U.S. Army has ordered all 410,000 troops in the Army Reserve to prepare for mobilization. Not everyone is being ordered to active duty, but the new orders make everyone aware that the army reserves are now on a wartime footing. [Strategy Page]

Blogging

by Bryan Strawser · Sep 27, 2003

I haven’t been blogging much, been busy and had other things on my mind.

Right now sitting on the couch watching a show about baby pandas, which appears to be the only thing on television right now worth watching. My cat is purring near my feet and is watching the same show – which is highly entertaining.

I am sipping a very fine martini with lots of jalapeno olives – which really makes my day. Now I just need a fine cigar.

Cats and Television

by Bryan Strawser · Sep 27, 2003

My cat, Galadriel, is sitting on the floor watching a Panda show on Animal Planet very carefully. Something apparantly interests her.

This coming from a cat who never pays any attention to the television at all.

iTunes -> Movable Type

by Bryan Strawser · Sep 27, 2003

My weblog now features the five most recently played songs in iTunes on my desktop to the sidebar here.

Funkyass neato feature if you ask me.

I have my entire CD collection ripped onto my PowerMac G4’s hard drive, so we’re talking nearly 3000 songs! Course, all of that syncs onto the iPod as well.

Long live Apple!

Will the Circle be Unbroken?

by Bryan Strawser · Sep 25, 2003

There are so many people I miss – some still walk the face of the earth… some live on only in my memories.

Tom, Chad, Fern, Lisa, Eldon, Marnie, Hill, Chris, Heather, Matt, Gary, Erin, Angie, Jennifer, Mike, Maggie, Rod, and I could go on.

Layers upon layers, fog at times, but clear skies at others. So many things, so much complication, so much riding on the past, but not. The future? Unknown.

Will the Circle be Unbroken? Will there be a time when all is clear? When all melds into one…
