Ugh.  Can you imagine?  Good

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 30, 2002

Ugh.  Can you imagine?  Good morning from Amsterdam, where once again I awake happy I am not an accountant that must adhere to something as vague as ‘Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. [Adam Curry: CurryDotCom]

Gimme a break – we’re

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 30, 2002

Gimme a break – we’re not all that stupid.  Not NATty at AT&T Broadband: in the latest move to demonstrate their lack of technical understanding, AT&T Broadband is offering full-price networking gear from Linksys for their customers with NAT disabled. If you want to buy it at full list from AT&T, you have to pay $4.95 per additional machine on your network. The upside: these machines get real, routable IPs. The downside: very, very few consumer machines require static IPs and, in fact, would be better served with nonroutable addresses as the first stage in firewalling themselves. (The second stage would be a personal firewall package like ZoneAlarm for Windows or Intego NetBarrier for Mac.) The AT&T guy quoted in the link above said they typically track problems back to NAT, and they can’t access machines for troubleshooting that are NAT’d. I’d agree with the first point; misconfigured NAT is probably a good reason why machines couldn’t see the Net, but it’s more likely DHCP configuration on the client machine that’s the problem. As for the second, if I were an ISP of any variety, I’d have a simple program for Mac, Windows, and Linux that a user could run at their discretion that would diagnose network ills and, if it could reach a Net (via NAT or not), send some diagnostic information to me. That makes sense. No NAT? Not.

Part Four We have no

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 29, 2002

Part Four

We have no intention of imposing our culture…

Evil is real, and it must be opposed.  I am glad to see that we’re willing to take a stand on what’s evil and what’s not.  Bush has clearly drawn a line in the sand and sticks to it.

This will be a decisive decade in the history of liberty..  rarely has the world faced a choice more clear..  we stand for a different choice..  we choose freedom and the dignity of every life..

We have known Freedom’s Price…  we will see freedom’s victory…

Part Three Ok, I’m not

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 29, 2002

Part Three

Ok, I’m not into the education thing.  Maybe it’s because I do not have children, but I have alot of difficulty figuring out why we even have a Federal Department of Education, let alone why we’re spending federal tax dollars on Education.

I have a city department of education, I live in the Taunton Regional School District, I have a State Department of Education, and a State Department of Education.

Anyways.

This bill shows what is possible when we set aside posturing and focus on results. I agree.

Some thought it was too big.. Most Americans thought tax relief was just about right..  No, it was way too fucking small (Yes, I said FUCK).  My taxes are out of control.

For the sake of long term growth, let’s make these tax cuts permament.

Shit, let’s cut taxes in half and you figure out what crap we need to stop paying for.  Please please please!

New 401k and pension plan safeguards…  Umm.. please don’t limit my investments…  oh shit, oh shit.. please…  I think he’s going to recommend this..  LET ME DECIDE!

I have stood in awe of the American People..  I thought of myself as a pessimist prior to September 11th, at least in regards to the general citizenry of our country..  I’ve not felt like that since then..

A new creed..  Let’s Roll!

A new culture of responsibility..  we want to be a nation that serves goals larger than ourselves.. we have been offered a new opportunity.. and we must take advantage of it..

Interesting call for volunteerism…

Part Two We must act

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 29, 2002

Part Two

We must act not as Republicans, not as Democrats, but as Americans…

We need more of them..  (meaning precision weapons).. new aircraft.. the best weapons, the best equipment, the best training.. and another pay raise.  Amen Brother.  Please pay them more and get moving on the new equipment, we are going to need it.  I wager that this is going to cause a shitload of controversy among the liberal left.

Whatever it costs to defend our country, we will pay.

Time and distance from the events.. will not make us safer.. Increased vigilence at home… action abroad..

One thing I’m enjoying with this speech is that we haven’t had Clinton’s 15,000 proposals that were all crap and socialist in nature.  I’ve only heard a few new proposals tonight.. yay!

The two flight attendents that noticed Richard Reed were just recognized and the President told their story.   Cool!

I’m more impressed by the fact that these folks on the flight had a mental state of mind that they were not going to take this shit lieing down.. they fought this guy….  Perhaps that’s what happened on Flight 93 in Pennslyvania as well.. they fought this guy…  I do hope so..  I don’t believe in being a victim.

Congress restrains spending.. and acts in a fiscally responsible manner.  I dunno, you may need a revolution to do that..  Or at least a significantly less number of Democrats in Congress and the Senate.

The State of the Union:

by Bryan Strawser · Jan 29, 2002

The State of the Union:

Pre-Speech

Ted Kennedy is still a fatass, apparantly Bush is going to refer to him as “my friend”.  Interesting.  He’s a Communist in disguise.

Hey look, Cheney is out of his cave!  Cooooool.  I like Cheney.

The Premier of Afganistan just entered and received a standing ovation.  He has a seriously funky cool outfit on.  And there’s the First Lady.

Interesting that press coverage of the State of the Union, which usually starts right before the President enters, tonight is showing the entrance of almost everyone of any importance.

The President’s Cabinet just entered.  I was listening to Don Imus this morning where Tim Russert was a guest.  Tim stated that Bush has made it clear that he enjoys having divergent views in his cabinet.. Colin Powell doesn’t always agree with Don Rumsfeld, neither of them always agree with Condi Rice, the National Security Advisor, and so on.  Divergent views are good!

Mr. Speaker, The President of the United States

Great strong start…  the ongoing applause is going to bug me…

The Terrorists who once occupied a country, now occupy cells in Gitmo..  they are now running for their own lives [sic]

Nice standing ovation for Harmed Karzai, good introduction from Bush.

Our success is due..  to the might of the United States Military.  The men and women of our armed forces have delivered a message clear to our enemy..  on mountaintops and in caves..  you will not escape the justice of this nation.

Maybe it’s just me, but the constant recognition of people from the gallery bugs me.  Maybe it’s because Clinton did most of this and did it constantly, but it’s still somewhat irritating.  I like to watch the speech, not the other stuff 🙂

Depth of their hatred..  videos where they laugh at the loss of life

Found diagrams of nuclear plants and public water facilities, key landmarks throughout the world..  far from ending, our war against terror is only beginning.

19 men were trained in camps and attacked on september 11th, tens of thousands of others are spread throughout the world like ticking time bombs, set to go off without warning.  Hundreds have been arrested, but tens of thousands..  are still at large.

The entire world is the battlefield..  we must pursue them wherever they are…

Objectives..  1)  we will shutdown camps, disrupts plans, bring to justice..  2)  prevent terorrists and regimes from.. threating the United States, and the world….

Camps still exist in at least a dozen countries.  Many of them appear to be Islamic, this could be interesting problem with our allies in the Middle East.  Saudi dropped a warning on us today about our recent comments on Arafat.

Terrorist Parasites..  speak it!  speak it!  Call it for what it is.

Jesse Helms can’t clap, damn…

Some nations will be timid, they will not act…  If they do not act, America will..  Call it the Bush Doctrine, but it’s somethign right out of a Clancy novel..and I like it.  We’ve been far too timid for so long….

Just singled out North Korea and Iran as potential issues, as well as Iraq..

Serious discussion about Iraq, could they be our next target?

We will do what is necessary to protect our country..  I will not wait on events..  We will not permit the world’s most dangerous regimes to threaten us…

It has only begun..  it may not be finished on our watch.. but it will be waged on our watch…  if we stop now.. our sense of security would be false.

I agree with him.  I already see things dropping off in our mindset.. we’re already getting a bit soft, no one is paranoid anymore..  we need to be.. we need to be think
